About The Opportunity
Join our dedicated Parks & Open Space team and play a key role in maintaining and enhancing some of the region’s most valued community spaces. In this role, you will work as part of a multi-disciplined team responsible for the care and presentation of parks, gardens, cemeteries, reserves, beaches, foreshores, and streetscapes. Your work will help create safe, attractive, and welcoming environments that our community can enjoy and be proud of. This is a hands-on position suited to someone who takes pride in their work, enjoys variety in their day, and is committed to delivering high-quality outcomes for our public spaces.
About You
- Provision of a satisfactory Criminal History Check - Police Certificate (Australia wide – name only).
- 'Very high level of experience in Parks Environment, Landscape and Horticultural activities; that may include gardening, cleaning, maintenance and repair, maintaining and pruning vegetation, grass and turf management, herbicide application, play scape maintenance, traffic control and signage set-out.
- Appropriate licences, certificates and qualifications relating to parks and environment operation, maintenance and improvement; a Certificate III or higher in a Horticultural related field is required.
- Possession of a current Construction Industry General Safety Induction is essential.
- Qualifications for operating vehicles and relevant item/s of plant; including possession of current Driver's Licence Class 'C'.
- Workplace Health and Safety Certificate of Competency for the relevant item/s of plant.
- Demonstrated very high level of ability to work effectively within a team environment under limited supervision ensuring that outcomes are achieved.
- Demonstrated high level communication and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated very high level of ability to follow work practices, policies, procedures, instructions and guidelines.
- Demonstrated very high level of interpersonal skills to effectively liaise with Council staff and the general public.
- Physical capability to frequently perform manual labouring tasks as described in the position description and role clarity statement - that may involve strenuous activity, repetitive actions and work in an outdoors environment exposed to natural elements.
- Demonstrated very high level of ability to plan and schedule tasks to ensure they are performed efficiently.
- Special Vehicle endorsement - Class 'UD' & Class 'MR' or 'HR' is desirable.
- Chainsaw Ticket and Herbicide Operator Ticket (AC/DC) is highly desirable.
